On Their Own

Some guys just want to be entrepreneurs.

Scott Beckett was a director of McCarthy Building Companies when he decided in 2006 to leave and start his own company. He had supervised the construction of the Lindbergh Tunnel, “which was a fabulous job, one that would be hard to beat in terms of what comes next,” he said. Although McCarthy treated him extremely well, he had always dreamed of having his own company, he said. “I was 44 years old and thought, ‘it is now or never.’”

His brother-in-law, 48-year-old Randy Bueckendorf, had been with Brinkmann Constructors for 20 years and was a minority partner in the company when he decided a year later to leave and join Beckett. “It was difficult to leave Brinkmann,” Bueckendorf said. His wife “thought I was crazy,” he said, but “it was now or never,” he added, echoing Beckett. Bob Brinkmann, he added, was very supportive and even offered to bond him. Bueckendorf’s father and his grandfather had both had their own construction companies — Bueckendorf Construction was his father’s company, Matthews Construction was his grandfather’s — and owning his own company was something he had wanted since high school.

BBi Constructors Completes $1.8 Million Stauder Technologies Offices
in Saint Peters, Mo.

Saint Peters, Mo. 11.19.07 — BBi Constructors has completed construction on the new $1.8 million, 2.24 acre, 13,000-square-foot, two-story brick and stone office building for Stauder Technologies. The entire first floor has raised access flooring for ready access to under floor technology services. The project was completed in a fast-track five months, three months ahead of schedule.

S. J. Hollander Architects PC of Saint Charles, Mo. designed the building. Stauder Technologies provides custom system solutions for military and commercial markets. The new Stauder Technologies office building is located adjacent to their headquarters complex at 115 Mexico Court, Saint Peters, Mo. 63376. Stauder Technologies employments 37 people and the new building will house an additional 28 employees.
